In the Spotlight

Daniela Ruberto – Class of 1987

For our Mother’s Day Breakfast at the College we gathered together to celebrate and give thanks to our mothers and mother figures for all that they do. After some beautiful and heartfelt reflections from our students we were fortunate to hear from Past Pupil of Distinction Nominee, Daniela Ruberto, who moved us all with her heartbreaking and inspirational story about her son Marcus and the establishment of the The Isabella and Marcus Foundation.

The foundation was set up when both Isabella and Marcus lost their lives to a little known brain cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). This cancer occurs in the brainstem, most frequently in children under the age of 12 years and offers no prospect of long term survival. Most children die within a year of diagnosis. The foundations mission is to “Enable scientists to solve the puzzle that is brain cancer by funding research, scientific meetings and clinical trials. Our focus is DIPG, a devastating and incurable disease of children and young adults.”
