Year 12

This week marks the half way mark for our Year 12 students. Many are completing their Unit 3 studies whilst VCE VM students are busy finalising and presenting their all important oral presentations. Whilst the student year is half over, it is important to know that there are still 75% of marks to be gained in most subjects.

GAT (General Achievement Test)

This week, a number of students gained feedback for their practice GAT (General Achievement Test). VCE Coordinator, Louise Mansfield, gave a presentation on the importance of students doing the best they can in the GAT.

Key points included, the GAT is used by VCAA to:

  • Assess that students have met the minimum standards of Literacy and Numeracy
  • Calculate a derived exam score
  • Moderate student’s SACs
  • Check that student’s exam marks are correct

Some universities may also use the GAT as evidence for entry.

The GAT will be held on 15 June.

To learn more about it and the necessity of completing it to the best of one’s ability, the presentation shown to students has been included below.

Holiday Homework

During the upcoming term holidays, subjects will set holiday homework and Unit 3 exams. Whilst the exams may not be compulsory for some subjects, they will enable teachers to give feedback to students on their understanding of the content so far. Completion of holiday homework is assumed and classes will be focussing on the application of the information covered in this homework. Therefore, it is important for time to be set aside most days to complete these tasks. That way, students will come back confident and ready to tackle the rest of Unit 4. Time for rest and relaxation is also important at this time so that students feel recharged and healthy.
