Library News

The Library has been busy over the past month helping students with their studies and reading.  More and more VCE students have been spending the afternoons in the Library as the days count down to the exams (as an extra addition to this article, VCE students who wish to access the “ATAR Notes Exam Cram” should click here in order to sign up).

The longer open hours which we began last year are a great benefit for these students at this time of year.

New Displays

As a treat for the eyes and as a welcome for Spring and renewal, the Library has redecorated itself into an oasis of flowers and fun.

As part of this ‘refurbishment’ we have also purchased a wealth of new books which you can see by logging into our library catalogue through PAM.

We would also like to share with you a new (beta) feature which has been released for the ebook collection.  There is now a ‘text-to-speech’ option which will read the ebook out aloud to you.  You can choose either a male or female voice – and both are quite OK; perhaps not so mellifluous as Jeremy Irons or Robin Miles, but definitely of listenable quality.  This feature is only available through the laptop interface; the app for smart devices is still under development.

Learning Diversity and Teaching Support

A final piece of news that we want to share with you relates to the ‘background’ work that we do to assist our teaching staff. We have recently purchased a number of books relating to practical tips for teaching our Learning Diversity students.  While I acknowledge the need for books which deal with the theory of learning and pedagogy, I get much more excited by books which actually offer practical advice!  The series of books below provide such a service.  All of these are now on loan to our Learning Diversity team.

Parents who are interested may see the list of books along with descriptions in the link below.
