Year 7 Animations

We have some excellent animators coming through in Year 7 if this year’s animations are anything to go by! Students have been working on creating their mini-animations in Adobe Animate, using tools such as motion tweens, shape tweens, frame by frame animation and a variety of drawing tools for vector images.

Year 8 DTE: Photoshop

Our creative Year 8s have been brushing up (pun intended!) on their Photoshop skills – starting with creating their own artworks using the many brushes, shapes, gradients, filters and text tools available to them. Next, they learnt how to combine photos to create new works of art.

Many classes are just finalising their nominees for the Art and Language Photoshop Competition, and we have a few fine examples of the nominees attached below.

We will announce the entire short list and winners in the next DTE newsletter!

Year 10 Gaming

Our Year 10 elective, PGW have just finished putting the finishing touches to their amazing games built using Microsoft Arcade. Students were tasked with creating Arcade style games, using pixelated images (all hand drawn) that can be played on a laptop or handheld device.

Here are the links if you’d like to test your gaming skills!

Year 11 User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX)

Year 11 Applied Computing have been extending their programming skills using Python. They have revised basic terms such as commands, loops, if statements, events and have created a variety of programs with Grok, IoT and the Microbits.

For one of the SAT modules, students had to design the UI/UX for a sports day scorer app that they had already programmed, using Python. The challenge was to build a device that could be used on the sports day to efficiently count the number of students in each house during the house walk.

Below is a sample programming solution for this task and some photos of students with their finished User Experience Designs! Each student designed for their own house, and I think you will agree, they look very appealing!

Big Day In

It was a cold but sunny morning when the Year 10 Programming, Gaming and Web design class, together with the Unit 1 Applied Computing class, headed into RMIT in the city for the Big Day In.

The Big Day In is a technology conference for young people that aims to inspire and inform about possible careers in ICT and Technology.

Students listened to presentations throughout the day from organisations and speakers discussing subjects including career paths, career opportunities, the latest developments, the future of technology and much more. The Adobe Creative cloud presentation was once again a highlight this year!

In the morning tea and lunch breaks, students visited the exhibitor stands to speak to exhibiting organisations, universities and colleges to learn about tertiary courses and degrees, work experience, internships, apprenticeships and to see demonstrations of some awesome technology.

It was a lot of information to take in, but students came away from the day buzzing about all the possible opportunities and careers in Technology.
