STEM Site Visit

Recently, 35 Year 9 students embarked on a visit to the Laing O’Rourke site office, as part of their two-year mentorship programme. Despite the inclement weather, the group, accompanied by Nicole Strickland—an Environmental Engineer, gained a rare insight into the world of construction, the roles of engineers within the industry and more. Past pupil, Madison Carty (2019) a current Junior Engineer at the site, shared her experiences and love for her job. Following a tour of the site, which highlighted the digging of a 19-metre reinforced vertical shaft, which will house the boring machine to dig the tunnel for the train, students and staff had a great time getting creative and decorating a hard hat to keep.
