STEM MAD (Make a Difference) program

Recently we received a STEM Innovations Grant from the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools. The grant has been used to facilitate the ‘STEM MAD (Make a Difference)’ program, which is designed to promote learning initiatives that address real world problems and encourage students to take action that matters. A number of Year 7 and 8 students were identified for this enhancement opportunity by their demonstrated strengths in STEM and invited to extend their learning.

The program launched last week with a session by AKORN Education, where students designed emergency shelters and a chair that was tested by College Principal, Ms Nicole Mangelsdorf. There are a number of sessions to follow that will see further STEM learning to advocate for the vulnerable for the group’s final task. We thank Ms Adrienne Donoghue and Ms Suzanne Grima for their dedication and facilitation of this wonderful initiative.
