R U OK? Day

R U OK? It’ a conversation that could save a life! Whilst we recognise and raise awareness today on R U OK? Day, as a College Community we commit to continuing these conversations long-term. As a starting point, here is a guide to create confidence, whilst engaging in these, at times, difficult conversations:

  • Ask – Are you ok?
  • Listen – Don’t judge or be dismissive i.e.. not responding with ‘you’ll be ok’ – instead, encourage them to talk
  • Encourage action – How can I help? What would take the pressure off?
  • Check In – Let’s chat again next week.

Upon arrival at the College we checked in with our students with ribbons, a sweet treat and a student-led live video to reinforce this important message. We continued to raise awareness with a gathering at recess, whilst our staff enjoyed a morning tea together and at lunch with music and netball.

Together, we can all make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling around us. The last few years have affected so many of us in different ways, so trust your instincts and check in when you notice changes……or even before!
