Plastic Free July

‘Plastic Free July’ stands as a global movement, empowering millions of individuals to combat plastic pollution and become part of the solution. Ideally this means we’ll have cleaner streets, oceans and beautiful communities. Throughout this month, our Kilbreda SEALS (Student Environmental Action Leaders) and Year 12 Sustainability Leaders, Mary and Yuhan, have been providing valuable insights and immersive experiences to raise awareness about the impact of single-use plastics. These include educational videos, endorsing the use of ‘Up Cup’ and reusable containers and promoting the collection of soft plastics through strategically placed tote bags around the College. This week, the SEAL team facilitated interactive activities including ‘Make your own T-Shirt Tote’, a movie screening and the highlight of the week, the ‘Recycling Race’. Enthusiastic teams came together during lunchtime, equipped with rubbish tongs to sort waste into appropriate bins. The event was a mix of competition and knowledge-sharing. Whilst smiles were spread, these small yet significant steps move us closer to a world free of plastic waste.
