Year 9

Our Year 9 students have worked hard and achieved some amazing results over the past few weeks!

  • Congratulations to Jas Perry and Stella Mackay for placing 3rd and 6th respectively at the Intermediate Cross Country, and to the other participants for their efforts as well.
  • Following hard work and dedication, many students from K2 achieved some personal best results for a recent English assessment task!
  • High School Musical JR is looking spectacular! The Year 9 students are doing a fabulous job leading the Junior cast and dedicating many hours to refining their performances.
  • The entire cohort impressed staff with their work ethic during our Study Zone session in Pastoral time. Students put into practice some outstanding revision and study techniques to prepare for their first experience of examinations.

BRIDGES

The Year 9 BRIDGES curriculum continues to provide students with the opportunity to expand their minds and life experiences. The current BRIDGES to Community Unit focuses on ‘Inviting and Welcoming All’, from the Living Justice Living Peace Charter, which is looked at through the lens of Asylum Seekers and Refugees.

Classes learnt more about the Ukraine crisis by listening to a podcast, then came up with an action for change to display on a banner to show their solidarity with the displaced people of Ukraine. Other classes went to the Immigration Museum to participate in a session called ‘Seeking Refuge’ to learn about where people have fled from and why they were seeking asylum in Melbourne in the last 150 years.

BRIDGES Student Reflection

BRIDGES has taught me a lot and has given me a different perspective on problems in the world today. For example, how wrongly Aboriginals are treated and the lack of respect that so many have for them. I have also learned a lot about asylum seekers and many of their horrible stories in the detention centres. This term, all BRIDGES classes visited the Immigration Museum. I really enjoyed it as I got to put my learning into action and also learnt a few new things as well. I have really enjoyed BRIDGES to Country and BRIDGES to Community this semester and I can’t wait for BRIDGES to City and BRIDGES to Change next semester.
