Year 9

A school is a very lonely and quiet place without our students. On Wednesday, 1 February it was wonderful to welcome our students back to school for this year. The energy and vitality that they bring with them is infectious. The conversations overheard, the joy and excitement in their voices and the pure elation at seeing their friends once more was incredibly uplifting.

Being new to Kilbreda myself, the students were incredibly welcoming to me. From the moment they entered the Kildare Centre, they have demonstrated respect and integrity. They are a credit to themselves as they have worn their uniform well and taken pride in their appearance.

This year, we welcomed many new students and their families to the Kilbreda community. We spoke about the College theme for this year, Courage: Speaking and acting with integrity, and how each of the new students was living out that theme, as moving to a new school does take courage. On behalf of the year level, we once again welcome Skye, Frankie, Indiana, Piper, Ness, Sienna, Lara, Darcy and Dara.

During the Assembly on Wednesday, the story, Maybe, written by Kobi Yamada was read to the students. If you don’t know the story, it is “a story about the endless potential in all of us”. The power of the words in this story is significant and the students were reminded “…just maybe, the world has been waiting centuries for someone exactly like you. One thing is for sure, you are here. And because you are here…….anything is possible.” For our students, maybe this is the year of maybe for them.

This term, there are many different activities for the students to be involved in outside of academic life at the College. At the moment there is a great deal of work being done by Ms Mel Marsh in preparation for the Year 9 BRIDGES camp. The students completing the Duke of Edinburgh International Award have their overnight hike. There are the House Athletics and Swimming Sports Carnivals as well. There are many opportunities for our students to live out our year level theme of ‘Engagement’.

2023, the year of Courage…..Engagement….Maybe…..

Thank you for your continued support in the education of your children.
