Year 9

Term 3 has been an extremely busy time for Year 9! For many, their term began in the second week of the holidays as the students involved in High School Musical JR dedicated many hours to perfecting their performances. Fast forward to Week 1 and the sacrifices and hard work paid off with an amazing week of shows with Year 9 students heavily involved with main and ensemble roles, backstage and technical aspects of the show.

In Week 2, the Year 9 students had another win with at the SCSA AFL Intermediate Competition, with a very clever Amy Spence kicking the winning goal in the closing minutes. Staff have praised students not only for their sporting achievements, but the behaviour, helpfulness and cooperation they displayed on this day.

On this same day, the rest of the year level travelled into the city to participate in a Melbourne version of the ‘Amazing Race’. The weather was perfect and students delighted in the challenges that included making a tower out of pasta and marshmallows, creating a team cheer and performing in Federation Square, and decoding clues to get to various destinations around the city. All students were commended on their ability to use public transport and finding their way around the city independently. Thank you to the BRIDGES team, including Mrs Melanie Marsh, for organising a wonderful day of hands-on learning!

During Pastoral time this term, the Year 9 students have begun taking part in ‘Black Dog’s Mental Fitness Challenge’ https://www.biteback.org.au/MentalFitnessChallenge. Kate Eddy, netballer from the Melbourne Vixens, joined us online to give advice and encouragement regarding pursuing mental fitness. Students then participated in a range of activities such as developing gratitude and learning the benefits of mindfulness.

‘So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.’
1 Corinthians 10:31

Thank you to all students who continually present themselves according to the uniform requirements. I would like to remind all remaining students about their responsibility to ensure that jewellery, hair, nails, and sport uniform are worn according to the policy, outlined in the student planners. Students who do not follow the guidelines will receive an infringement, so I urge all to be organised and make wise choices each day.

Year 9 students are now required to consider their options for Year 10 as the 2023 Course Selection process begins. Students are encouraged to have conversations with their parents and teachers regarding their choices and future aspirations, and to ensure that all forms are submitted by the due date. Please contact relevant subject staff if further information is required.

Thank you all for your support of our Year 9 students and I wish you all a happy and healthy month of August!
