Year 9

This term has been a busy term for our Year 9 students particularly in the cocurricular life of the College. It has been pleasing to see the number of students involved in a range of different activities. In the last newsletter we highlighted the involvement of students in social justice activities and the College production, Legally Blonde.

In recent weeks, the Year 9 students have represented the College well in the sporting field competing in netball, volleyball and aerobics. Their conduct at each of the venues as well as their gamesmanship on “court” was exemplary. Their enthusiasm and enjoyment are evident on their faces in the photos below – even at the end of the day of competition after so many games! The friendships that are formed from these shared experiences are priceless.

Big Science Competition

Additionally, I would like to congratulate Isha Gurung who was presented with her credit certificate at the School Assembly for the 2023 Big Science Competition. It was fabulous to watch Isha as she received her certificate from Ms Mangelsdorf in front of the whole school.

VNA Netball

On Tuesday 15 August, Kilbreda entered five teams into the Victorian Netball Association, VNA, competition. All five teams played seven games throughout the day. The two intermediate teams had huge success, with Kilbreda RED winning six out of seven games and Kilbreda NAVY winning two out of seven games.

Kilbreda RED finished second, just missing out on moving to the next round. Everyone enjoyed their day, which was full of encouragement, smiles, laughter and some great netball. We would like to thank our coaches Mrs Strauss and Mrs Wood.

SEGAP Netball

On 14 August the SEGAP Netball and Volleyball teams made their way to Monash University Clayton for the annual SEGAP competition. There were two netball teams, the A team and the B team. I was a part of the B team coached by Ms Hood. We played against three other schools (Killester, Sacred Heart and OLSH). The day started with everyone buzzing with excitement for what was to come. We started strong with a win against Killester, which made us believe more that we had a chance to win. Our next game was against Sacred Heart, where we unfortunately lost, but we held our heads high and kept our ‘never say die’ attitude. We dominated the next game and after winning the semi-finals, we secured our spot in the grand final against Sacred Heart. The game began, and we were leading the way, getting goal after goal. In the second half, we kept the same winning attitude, and even though the other team was rough, that didn’t bring us down. The game ended with a four point win (12 to 9) and everyone buzzed with excitement because we had won! The bus trip back to school was filled with singing and happiness.

On behalf of our team, I would like to thank Ms Hood for coaching us.

CGSAV Aerobics

On 11 August, we went to an Aerobics competition at OLMC. We had five teams that competed. A few of our teams were lucky enough to place. In preparation for the competition, we practised on Wednesday either before school or during lunch. All teams learnt the same routine but had different positions throughout the song. I really enjoyed doing aerobics for the social element, where I met new people, did something else with my friends and there was the competitive side. Aerobics is something fun to do to stay fit and be around friends. All together it was a really fun day and everyone was glad that they did it.

Thanks to all the teachers that helped out.

SEGAP Volleyball

We were very excited to play against other teams in SEGAP Volleyball at Monash Uni and had so much fun throughout the day. After playing against other schools, we got better and better at working together and managed to win every round. This gave us the courage that led us to take the win along with our other teams, while also making new friends from other schools.

CGSAV Soccer

The CGSAV Soccer was a really fun day for the intermediates, as we won all our games except the first, making it to the grand final. Although we ended up losing, it was a sunny day filled with new connections, and was a great experience not just playing soccer, but getting to know new people. It didn’t matter if you’ve never played before because everyone had so much fun and will definitely do it again next year!
