Year 7

On behalf of the Year 7 Homeroom teachers and myself, I would like to congratulate all Year 7 students for making it through their first semester of secondary school! There have been new friendships, changed friendships, laughter and sometimes tears, as students have adjusted to the challenges and rewards of secondary school. All students should be proud of their efforts, and I hope you thoroughly enjoy a much-needed rest over the holidays. The next two weeks will provide a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your successes and challenges, considering how you can adapt your habits and continue developing your organisational, social and study skills learnt in the first semester of your secondary school journey.

Congratulations to all award recipients, which will be presented in tomorrow’s assembly. They have worked cooperatively to achieve goals, shown respect for self and others, inspired and motivated their peers, and helped to promote a culture of school pride and belonging. Those that have been involved in a range of extracurricular activities we thank you for your dedication, commitment, and willingness to share your talents with us. It is a truly outstanding effort

Journey Day

On Monday 6 June, Dannielle Miller, the co-founder and CEO of Enlighten Education, Australia’s leading provider of in-school workshops for teen girls on body image, self-esteem, and empowerment, presented to our Year 7 students.

As a staff we are increasingly aware of the difficulty some of our students are having as they navigate their youth. We are concerned about self-concept and the pressure of social media, respectful relationships, safety and resolving conflict. Dannielle’s full day workshop aimed to equip our students with the necessary tools to their develop self-esteem and confidence.

Designed specifically for our students, Journey Day encouraged them discover their own inner beauty, manage friendships, and recognise the difference between safe and unsafe behaviours. Dannielle enlightened our Year 7 students to reach their own conclusions, and to know their own minds. Rather than telling girls what to do, she focused on informing, inspiring and empowering them.

Fundamentally we will be encouraging our students to be discerning consumers and critical thinkers, and to find their own voices in this complex world.
