Year 7
In and Around Year 7
Pastoral next week will focus on promoting self-acceptance, resilience and psychological flexibility.
The Main Ideas
- Stop the comparisons
There will always be people who appear to have more “things” than we do. Constantly trying to catch up to them prevents us from living our own life to the fullest.
- Commit to seeing life in a positive way
Thinking optimistically is a skill that can be learned, and this type of thinking helps to improve our experience of happiness.
- Move that body
Find a suitable activity for you – walking, swimming and yoga are great when it comes to relieving stress.
- Other points to consider
- Get the hard tasks finished first
- Listen to music
- Spend time with people who make us happy and laugh
- Spend time outdoors
- Read great books
- Enjoy time with pets
- Improve relationship with sleep
- Turn screens off before bed
- Use mindfulness apps

And lastly pay it forward. Acts of kindness and generosity can do so much more for the giver than the receiver so if someone reminds you how kind people can be – pay it forward and spread it to someone else.
We are very conscious that at this time of the year students are busy with assessments in most subjects. The school is always willing to work with the students to help organise their work and reduce their stress.
Something each student could do at home is to make sure that your homework space is designed to help you be as efficient as possible, free from distraction, comfortable and well lit. Make sure you have a comfortable chair to sit on and that you have all stationery and equipment that you need.
If you are feeling overwhelmed about schoolwork, please ask your teachers and visit the Library after school to get some of your schoolwork done. Use your friends – get together and make the work fun.
