Year 7 Camp at Lord Somers – A Journey of Resilience and Growth
What a wonderful experience Year 7 students had at Lord Somers Camp! It was an adventure comprising of personal growth and memorable moments that will stay with the students for years to come. As the Year 7 Level Leader, I was incredibly proud of the way our students embraced the challenges of the camp, displayed resilience, and fostered new friendships along the way.
At Lord Somers, students participated in a range of activities that tested their physical and mental strength. Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding enabled the students to have fun whilst honing their watersports skills. Another highlight was watching students utilise their problem-solving skills whilst participating in initiative games. The creativity of our Year 7 students was truly on display during the Camp concert, where they showcased their talents and teamwork, as well as in the screen-printing activity, where students expressed their unique artistic flair through vibrant and personalised designs.
We saw many moments of courage as students faced fears, picked themselves up after setbacks, and celebrated their achievements with enthusiasm. It was a true testament to the strength and resilience of our Year 7 cohort.
The Camp also provided a unique opportunity for students to get to know each other outside the classroom. As they worked together in teams, they developed their interpersonal skills, collaborative strategies, cooperation and empathy. Many students formed new friendships and strengthened existing bonds. It was heart-warming to see the connections made and the way students looked out for each other throughout the Camp.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the staff and Camp leaders who supported the students throughout the experience, ensuring a safe and rewarding environment for all. And of course, a big thank you to the students themselves for showing up with open minds, willing hearts and a spirit of adventure.
