Year 7

This week, students participated in an engaging Emotional Regulation pastoral lesson facilitated by Homeroom teachers. These sessions provided students with practical strategies to identify signs of emotional distress, accept emotions without judgment, and express feelings in constructive ways. The lesson, grounded in evidence-based practices, aim to equip students with tools to navigate their emotional experiences effectively.

Positive Learning Behaviours

As assessment periods continue, we understand that students may experience increased stress. To support them, we encourage the establishment of effective study environments at home – spaces that are comfortable, well-lit and free from distractions. Ensuring access to necessary stationery and resources can enhance focus and productivity.

Students feeling overwhelmed are reminded of the support available:

  • Library resources
  • Assistance from teachers
  • Year 7 Homework Help sessions
  • Maths Help in the library
  • Collaborative study with peers

If meeting assignment deadlines becomes challenging, students are encouraged to request an extension through a formal process involving the subject teacher, parental consent and approval from the Year Level Coordinator. Extension request forms can be obtained from the Coordinator’s office.

Ready, Ready, Revise, Reset (RRRR) Initiative

We are excited to reintroduce our reward system with a fresh approach: the RRRR initiative. This program encourages Year 7 students to utilise transition times between classes effectively by focusing on:

  • READY: Organising materials and preparing for upcoming lessons.
  • READ: Engaging in quiet reading, especially after practical classes.
  • REVISE: Reviewing content from previous lessons.
  • RESET: Taking brief movement breaks to re-energise.

To maintain a conducive learning environment, we advise minimising locker visits and scheduling toilet breaks during recess and lunch.

Teachers will monitor and acknowledge consistent adherence to the RRRR principles. Classes demonstrating these behaviours at least three times a week will earn a star, displayed on the RRRR reward chart in the Year 7 corridor. The class accumulating the most stars weekly will receive canteen vouchers as a token of recognition.

Morning Teas

The Year 7 Morning Teas are an ongoing initiative to promote a sense of community and connectedness among the Year 7 students. These informal gatherings provide a valuable opportunity for students to socialise, interact and form friendships with their classmates, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment within the school. Additionally, the Morning Tea aims to strengthen bonds between parents, students, and to open conversations about our rich history and the Brigidine tradition with Sister Lia.

Thank you for your continued support.
