Lord Somers Camp

From standup paddle boarding to cooking pizzas at  Lord Somers camp, we all had a glorious time!

My Homeroom’s first activity was free time. In this time you could play games, rehearse for the concert, hang out in your room or just sit and talk to your friends! Next was lunch our first impression of this camp’s food could change the entire experience! Luckily for us there was a buffet set up with everything you could want in a sandwich/roll.

Of course, with my class’ luck, we had pizza making next! We walked through the bush passing a magnificent view of the beach. When we got to the venue all of us washed our hands and grabbed a blob of dough that had been made by the class before us. You were allowed to make your pizza into any shape you wanted. Most people created a heart, a circle or a square. The most unique design I saw was a flower which was made by Zanna and Scarlett in Room 76.

After that everyone had free time. The time was for playing sports, getting changed, cleaning up and getting ready for dinner. After dinner we had trivia night, which involved lip syncing and questions. On the second day we did kayaking, standup paddle boarding and screen printing. In screen printing we all got to design our very own picture. Then after we drew the picture, we voted on the best design. In my class we chose Ashley’s T-shirt. It had a dolphin and 7/76 on it.

On the final day at camp we traveled down past the beach and into the bush to a so-called  ‘haunted house.’ We were told by our camp leaders that if you listen really closely you could hear knocking on the doors, screaming and talking inside the abandoned house. After exploring the site for a little bit we ate sausages for lunch. Then finally we all hopped on the bus and went home. We all had an amazing time at Lord Somers Camp 2024!

What Did we Learn From Camp?

Camp was an amazing experience as we had so many opportunities to try new things and to step out of our comfort zones. There were times when we were not sure if we should do it but we pushed through. All of the activities were awesome, so many ways to connect without fellow classmates and to bond as a team. On the first night we had trivia. It was an amazing night. We all got into teams and worked together to answer questions and compete in competitions. So while we’re at camp we learnt how to persist and to never give up. Overall Lord Somers was an amazing experience and I wish that someday I can go back.

Camp Concert

Lord Somers Camp had many amazing and spectacular opportunities along with activities, but one of my favorite things we did there was the Camp Concert. Each class had a limited time to come up with one amazing dance that we performed to everyone on the second night. All Homerooms had to nominate two people that would lead them in this dance, whilst including everyone’s ideas. I think all classes did an amazing job.  We started off the night with some fun games and activities whilst we waited for everyone.  Then finally the lights dimmed and the concerts started, 7/70 started the night with their amazing dance and I couldn’t wait to do mine.
