Year 7

Adolescents are frequently exposed to distressing news via the continuous news cycle and social media, which can potentially trigger anxiety, particularly in young minds that are still shaping their perspectives. It is crucial for parents and caregivers to be mindful of excessive exposure to such content, as it can lead to symptoms resembling post-traumatic stress disorder. The way children react to trauma can vary, ranging from intense emotional responses to a sense of detachment. This can leave an emotional mark that influences a child’s behaviour and their perception of threats.

During uncertain times, it is important to provide children and young people with reassurance about their safety. Tailoring conversations to a child’s age and emotional maturity is key. Younger children benefit from simplified explanations that focus on concepts like peace, empathy and cooperation, while older children can explore historical events, the underlying causes of conflicts and the complexities of international relations.

Before broaching these subjects with your child, it is also important to gauge your own emotions and comfort level. Maintaining a calm demeanour and offering physical comfort can assist your child in regulating their own emotions. In challenging times, compassionate adults play a vital role in helping children manage their anxiety and offering hope and understanding in our intricate world.

This link below offers guidance on addressing this challenging topic and aiding children in understanding that there is still hope in our complex world.

2024 Homeroom Selection

Over the coming weeks, we will finalise homerooms for 2024. Whilst I am sure you can appreciate this is a complex process, several factors are considered when allocating students. Our team, which includes the Assistant Principal: Learning and Teaching, Level Leaders, Learning Diversity staff and relevant teaching staff, work through this lengthy process.

Please contact me if there are any educational grounds for concerns that you believe are relevant. We are unable to consider friendship groups, classes and teachers.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation on this matter.

Congratulations

I want to congratulate the Year 7 students on a fantastic year. They have wholeheartedly immersed themselves in all aspects of college life, making a remarkable beginning to their journey at Kilbreda. It has been a genuine pleasure to lead such an outstanding group of young people and I eagerly anticipate witnessing each student’s continued success as they progress through their time at the College.
