You Can Sit With Me Program

The ‘You Can Sit With Me Program’ was introduced at Year 7 to emphasise the importance of inclusion and acceptance. 11 successful ambassadors have been selected for this incredibly important role.

Ambassadors are asked to sign a contract if they are willing to be a ‘You Can Sit With Me Program’ monitor for the semester. We feel it is important that students understand that if they wear a ‘You Can Sit With Me Program’ wristband then it is a commitment.

Students have been asked to think carefully prior to signing a contract. They need to consider the following points prior to wearing the wristband:

  • Am I having a good day today, do I feel strong enough to help others?
  • Am I happy for any Year 7 student to sit with me today?
  • Am I too busy today to help other people because I have activities on at recess and lunchtime?

Note: Students can hand their wristband in for the day if perhaps they are on an excursion or busy. They can then come and collect it the following day.

We thank the following students for taking the time to step up and be part of this program – future leaders right there!

Public Transport Safety

Travelling on public transport is one of the most convenient ways to travel. Students are expected to demonstrate courtesy, respect and consideration of others whilst travelling to and from school on public transport.

Helpful tips for ways to keep safe while waiting for a train, bus, or tram, getting on or off and while in transit, are provided on the PTV and Victoria Police websites.

The following is advice taken from the Victoria Police website (transit and public safety). If your personal safety is threatened when you are on public transport you can:

  • Tell the person to stop what they are doing in a loud and assertive voice, so they become the centre of attention.
  • Consider moving somewhere else or closer to other passengers.
  • Report the person. Tell the driver or public transport staff who can contact police.
  • Trust your instincts. Do what you feel will improve your safety and make you feel more comfortable.

Travel Safety Tips

The following are travel safety tips for keeping safe while waiting for or boarding a train, bus or tram, and while you are in transit:

  • Plan your journey before you travel.
  • Keep your belongings where you can physically see and touch them.
  • Put your phone or wallet in your front pocket.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and of who is around you.

Emergency Plus App

Students have been encouraged to download the emergency plus app. The app is a powerful tool that will help you call Triple Zero (000) quickly and allow you to accurately communicate your location to emergency call-takers.
