Year 12 Retreat

On 8 March, the Class of 2023 gathered at the Flagpole in anticipation of a big three days ahead. Retreat came at a perfect time for us to all gather as a cohort and take a break to refresh ourselves just as the SAC calendar was filling up.

On the Retreat, we participated in a series of workshops based on the Kildare Ministries values of hope, justice, courage, hospitality, compassion and wonder. Each session opened our eyes to the different perspectives on each value and how this applies to our journey through Year 12 and into the future. All the speakers (our teachers) gave us something insightful to take away from each session.

We were lucky enough to hear from Ms Mangelsdorf, who shared her personal experiences about compassion and her involvement with the St Vincent de Paul Society. She gave an insightful account about some of her volunteer work and her encounters with people of different situations. It was motivating to hear how someone as busy as she is, has time to contribute positively to our society.

The year level Mass was a great experience for everyone. We were split into groups to help organise different aspects of the Mass and it was great to see everyone getting involved and working together. In preparation for the Mass, we all wrote on a piece of paper something we wanted to let go of, whether it be about ourselves or the actions of someone else. During the Mass, we put it in the campfire; symbolising forgiveness and letting go in order for us to grow as individuals and move forward.

The Retreat was filled with so many adventures, from ‘Just Dance’ to a social justice fashion show, which we will all remember forever. Thank you to all the teachers who spoke to us and made our Retreat possible.
