Rotary Speech for Remembrance Day

Each year, Noble Park Rotary Club hold ANZAC services and also honour Remembrance Day where three students from local schools present speeches on a specific topic. The theme for this year was Courage and I was fortunate to have been nominated to be the school’s representative for Remembrance Day.

On 20 March, I was given the opportunity to perform my speech in front of the Noble Park Rotary Club members. Two other students from Mentone Girls Grammar and Haileybury College were also present, performing speeches for ANZAC Day. The purpose of this day was to practice our speeches for our important days and gain feedback from teachers that are a part of the Rotary Club.

The event was an amazing opportunity. I was provided with a delicious 2-course meal and every person there was so welcoming and kind including the two students I was seated next to. My speech was entitled ‘Courage’ and followed the courageous acts of soldiers in battle and how we can honor their memory by performing acts of courage in our everyday lives.

Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one; it’s bravery. I utilized the definition of courage in my speech, touching on the difficulty that accompanies facing frightening situations. However, having courage gives us the ability to overcome our fears and move forward in life rather than coming to a standstill when things get difficult. This theme of courage acting as a catalyst in moving forward in our lives was continuous throughout my speech.

I am so grateful to the Noble Park Rotary Club for providing me with such an amazing opportunity and I can not wait to perform my speech as the keynote speaker on Remembrance Day.
