Year 10

Future’s Week

During the last week of Term 2, our Year 10 students had the opportunity to participate in a ‘Future’s Week’ program. The purpose of this week was to provide our students the foundations to begin thinking about, preparing for and planning their future pathways. The week involved VCE/VCE – VM/VET workshops which gave our students a ‘taster’ of what is involved with those subjects in Years 11 and 12.

We also had the fantastic experience visiting a range of inter-faith institutions where students were exposed to, and learnt about different religions and how we can foster positive relationships with those communities. Additionally, students departed on tours to a variety of higher-education institutions, both Universities and TAFEs, to begin thinking about where they might choose to undertake further study once they have completed their Year 12 certificate.

For the final few days of their Future’s Week, students were given the opportunity to develop their independence, communication and navigational skills making their own way into the CBD and engaging in a variety of tours and programs that demonstrated the diverse careers that could potentially eventuate from their studies. It was a fantastic experience for all involved, and while it was a very exhausting week for many, our Year 10 students represented the College proudly with their respect, engagement, and positivity throughout the entire week.

Student Reflection

Future’s Week was an opportunity to discover new pathways for our future. We started off with taste testers for each subject diving in a bit more depth to discover more about what we are interested in and learn about new subjects that we may not know much about. We then took advantage of the real world and went to different universities and TAFE campuses. We received tours and talks about the different universities and what they offer. We got to see the different sections for the different courses.

This week taught us time-management skills, navigation skills as well as the importance of being organised. It gave us an opportunity to learn to use trains, trams and schedules. Going into the city taught us to take others into consideration while travelling and to be aware of our surroundings.

We ended our careers week with a bonding experience with our peers and playing the game, The Amazing Race which involved searching for new findings within the city and new destinations to visit .
