Year 10

It has been wonderful to see our Year 10 students filled with positivity and joy as they come to the end of another busy term!

Examinations

An important part of the College calendar is our upcoming examination period, commencing on Friday 3 June (Week 6). The examinations are a crucial and important part of our curriculum, which enable our students to develop their revision and study skills in preparation for VCE. Additionally, exams encourage our students to create positive learning habits, time management skills and organisational skills as they plan and prepare for their subjects in advance.

Throughout the term we have focused on developing key skills that have allowed students to feel confident, organised and ready for their Semester 1 exams.

Wellbeing Tip – Social Media Detox

Now is the perfect time to encourage your child to trial a social media detox, which can allow them to focus on being present and create positive habits at school and at home.

One tip is to encourage your child to delete and remove their social media apps from their phones for 24 hours and notice how they feel afterwards. I can guarantee, they’ll feel better!

Another tip is logging out and deleting all social media apps during the week (while at school) with an allowance to log in once per day (at night).

Proven benefits from disconnecting from social media include:

  • A more content and calmer young person
  • Becoming more productive.
  • Healthier relationships.
  • Physical, emotional and mental health improvements
  • Improved sleep.

Futures Week – June 19 to 23

In the final week of this term, our Year 10 students are engaging in a week-long ‘camp’ that is designed to prepare them for their upcoming subject selection days for VCE or VCE VM. The week is a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in VCE and VCE-VM subjects, experience tertiary life as well as investigate what careers in particular fields of study look like post study.

Parents will receive PAM permission letters outlining the specifics of this week over the course of the next few weeks.

Year 10 Social – Tuesday 20 June

We have fortunately been approved to run a Year 10 Social on Tuesday 20 June from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Mary Dalton Hall. We will have food, drinks and a DJ for students to enjoy on the evening. Tickets are $20 to purchase, which will go towards catering and paying for the DJ. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to come together and enjoy a night out.

This event will be staffed. However, we also welcome volunteer parents to assist with supervising on the evening. Any parent assistance will require a valid Working With Children’s (WWC) check.

If you are interested in assisting during the evening, please contact me at Jessica.baddeley@kilbreda.vic.edu.au

Congratulations

We congratulate Year 10 students, Hannah Mesic and Erin Kelly (and Year 9 students Matilda Walker, Amelia Knott and Year 7, Keira Kenny), who represented Australia in a junior international dance competition, ‘The Varsity Dance Summit Championship’ at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. These girls were invited to compete after wowing the judges during their 2022 competition season. They trained over the summer and throughout Term 1 with their Sapphires Team from Mathis Dance Studios, competing in the Jazz and Lyrical sections. Hannah, Erin, Matilda and Amelia also competed with their Onyx teammates in the Hip-Hop division. The girls finished in the Top 10 for their Jazz and Hip Hop routines and 11th for Lyrical. An amazing achievement in tough and large sections, competing against the best in the world!
