Year 10

Futures Week – 19 to 23 June

During our last week of Term 2, our Year 10 students will be participating in the Futures Week program, which is designed to assist our students in their subject/career planning, personal development and exploration of areas of interest. The aim of the week is to equip our young people with the skills, independence, interpersonal skills and resources required of them as they begin their senior years of education and eventually enter the workforce.

Subject Taster Days – 19 to 20 June

During these days students will participate in a pathways presentation outlining VCE / VCE VM / VET, the subject selection process and a brief overview of subjects available in their senior years of schooling. This will be facilitated by Mrs Jane Ward (Assistant Principal: Learning and Teaching). Students will engage in a variety of workshops run by staff that allow our young people to explore the requirements and expectations of VCE / VCE VM / VET subjects and develop their understanding of their individual pathway to make an informed decision moving forward.

Tertiary Institution Tours – 21 June

Students will utilise their independence and navigation skills by making their own way to the tertiary institution they have elected, which replicates the reality of how they will commute to these institutions post-school. Staff will be at each institution to support students when they arrive and throughout the tour of the facilities. The specific universities and TAFEs have provided our Year 10 students with an amazing opportunity to explore how they are structured, the variety of courses on offer and immerse themselves in life outside of school.

Students have selected to participate in a campus tour and an activity organised by the following institutions:

  • University of Melbourne – Parkville Campus
  • Monash University – Caulfield
  • Deakin University – Burwood
  • Australian Catholic University – Melbourne
  • La Trobe University – Melbourne
  • RMIT University – City
  • Swinburne University of Technology – Hawthorn
  • Victoria University – City
  • William Angliss – Melbourne
  • Holmesglen TAFE – Moorabbin/Bourke Street
  • Box Hill Institute – City
  • St Kilda Football Club, RSEA Park – Moorabbin Diploma of Sport and Event Management

Students can elect an AM and a PM time slot, meaning they can explore two institutions they are interested in. Students are to find their way to their PM session once their AM session has concluded. Further details of this will be shared closer to the dates.

City Experience – 22 to 23 June

Students will engage in a range of activities that are designed to provide them with a ‘taste’ of what a career in different fields can lead towards. These activities are designed to be interactive, engaging and develop our students understanding of what is required when thinking about their future pathways. These days are designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop their time management, organisation, independence, teamwork and communication skills as they navigate their way around the city to their assigned activities. While students are given this autonomy, there will be staff assigned to all meeting points and activities so that students are accounted for, supervised and to ensure that they are always safe.

Students will be required to make their own way into the city via public transport and arrive to their specific location at the time indicated on their timetables. Part of this requirement is that students are using a valid myki card and adhering to the expectations of public transport. Staff will also be travelling to and from the city by train at specific times so students who will require support are welcome to travel with staff if they prefer.

Students are to wear their PE uniform correctly as they represent the College in the city. Students can supply their own lunch or purchase their lunch in between activities. Students will be dismissed from the city at the conclusion of their afternoon activities at approximately 3:00pm.
