Year 10

Pathways Planning and Financial Literacy

As part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom, our Year 10 students recently took part in a financial literacy session led by a guest presenter from the Talk Money program. Delivered during their Pastoral lesson, the presentation offered practical insights into how young people can take charge of their financial wellbeing, both now and in the years ahead.

Throughout the session, students were introduced to key financial concepts such as understanding the different types of employment and thinking about future careers and incomes. The presenter explored real-life scenarios that many teenagers face, such as managing income from part-time jobs and developing constructive conversation skills that students can use at their workplaces to assert themselves and their financial independence.

Students were encouraged to reflect on their own attitudes and habits around money, and to consider how early financial decisions can have long-term impacts. The importance of being financially informed and independent was a strong theme, empowering students to ask questions, seek advice and be intentional with their spending. The session sparked meaningful conversations among peers about financial priorities and future aspirations.

This presentation integrated well into the current Year 10 think-space where we have been in the middle of deciding our pathways for Years 11 and 12, as well as beyond school.

We would like to congratulate all students and their families for their meaningful engagement with the Pathways and Careers planning interviews, seminars and information evenings. Students have completed their subject selections for Year 11 and can work towards achieving their goals for their future. It has been a robust and informative experience for all involved.

We are grateful to the Talk Money team for equipping our students with such vital life skills and providing them with the tools to make confident and informed financial decisions.
