Year 10

Year 10 students have begun the year confidently, positively and have demonstrated their maturity as they begin their senior studies. As part of creating a positive, inclusive and safe culture, the Year 10 students have all joined a year level Google Classroom, where weekly psychoeducation skills as well as fun activities are posted to create a supportive environment and space.

In Week 4, students were provided information about stress, in particular: what it is, how stress is stereotyped as being ‘bad’ but most importantly, about the positive ways we can utilise stress to maximise performance in our lives. This education falls in line with the College’s new Positive Behaviour for Learning Framework; encouraging our Year 10 students to develop a sense of resiliency, perseverance, and growth mindset with their learning and personal lives.

The following strategies were shared with students to assist them with managing their stress:

Coping strategies to effectively manage stress:

  • Recognise your signs of stress (what does stress look like and feel like in your body)
  • Identify your triggers/causes of stress
  • Use problem-solving skills to help manage the situation that is causing the stress
  • Use positive self-talk and growth mindset statements
  • Keep things in perspective – Are you overthinking things?
  • Prepare for tackling the stressful situation – meditation/mindfulness activities
  • Organise your time
  • Look after your health – nourish your body, move and exercise
  • Get 8 to 10 hours of sleep each day!

Below are a few helpful resources that were shared with students, should you be interested in reading these to promote a culture of resiliency and perseverance in your home.
