Wellbeing and Engagement

National Day/s of Action Against Bullying and Violence: 12-16 August

Over the course of the week, the Health and Wellbeing Student Leadership Group have prepared several activities to acknowledge the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence and to promote the 2024 theme of ‘Everybody Belongs.’

For young people, the link between connections and belonging is profoundly significant. Forming meaningful relationships with peers, mentors and community members helps them develop a sense of identity and self-worth. These connections offer emotional support, validation and a sense of security, all of which are crucial during the formative years. When young people feel connected to others, they are more likely to feel included and valued, fostering a strong sense of belonging. This, in turn, enhances their overall well-being, boosts their confidence and encourages them to engage more fully in their social and personal development. We know that when someone has many connections to people and places, they feel safe, happy and supported. The more connections they have, the better they are at coping with challenging situations in their life. Being connected and having people to talk to, or to ask for help, are great ways to prevent bullying.

Students were encouraged to write messages of support and belonging for others in their year level.  These messages will be displayed on bulletin boards around the school to serve as a reminder our school is a welcoming place.

Student Leadership 2025….the journey continues:

This week during the Pastoral Lesson, we celebrated the remarkable journey of some of our Year 11 students who have applied to be College Co-Captain and embarked on the path of leadership, dedication, and inspiration.  We listened attentively to their vision for the College and how they would awaken the 2025 value of Hospitality in order to welcome all.  We congratulate the candidates for their willingness to serve our school community and for their courage and determination to create an inclusive school culture, one in which all experience a sense of belonging.

Focus on Child Safety

Child Safe Standard 2: Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in leadership, governance, and culture.  As part of our compliance, we will survey the students every 6 months with questions related to safety to ensure we are vigilant in identifying and addressing any areas of concern.  After reviewing the recent feedback, areas identified included the bathrooms and areas near the oval.  We have responded with some changes to yard duty and reminding staff on duty in key places to be vigilant in targeted areas.  We are also adding a rail to the steps leading to the Atrium.

Focus on health

During these winter months there is an increase in illness for both staff and students. Our priority is the health and safety of our students. If your child/ren are unwell, please don’t send them to school and we encourage you to seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
