Wellbeing and Engagement

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you and your families enjoyed a rejuvenating Easter break surrounded by loved ones and friends. It’s been wonderful to witness the return of all our students brimming with energy, signalling the start of what promises to be an engaging and bustling term ahead.

We have had a wonderful start to the term.  Our Anzac Day commemoration service provided a poignant moment to honour and remember our service men and women.  Kilbreda Performing Arts Week is currently in full swing, showcasing exceptional performances from our talented students.  Additionally, our basketball players have demonstrated remarkable prowess at the CGSAV and the Victorian 3 on 3 championships.  Meanwhile, our Model United Nations representatives are deeply engaged in researching the intricate workings of the United Nations and our STEM Mad participants are exploring innovative solutions to real-world problems.

Excitement is palpable among our Year 8 students as they eagerly anticipate their upcoming camp to Valley Homestead.  Furthermore, the array of co-curricular activities on offer has provided our students with invaluable opportunities to cultivate new skills and forge stronger connections with their peers.  It is truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of our school community as we embark on this enriching journey together.

Developing a Global Mindset

Over the term break, I had the privilege of embarking on a transformative journey through Europe alongside 28 remarkable Year 10 – 12 students and esteemed colleagues as part of the College’s History and Politics tour.  Our expedition to the Netherlands, Belgium, and France served as an enlightening encounter with moments that not only moved our spirits but also ignited a fervent desire for a more interconnected and harmonious world.  Among the many enriching experiences, a standout was our visit to the United Nations International Court of Justice in The Hague, where our students engaged in thought-provoking dialogue with the tour facilitator, demonstrating their astute understanding amidst an atmosphere charged with the weight of diplomacy.  Venturing into the heart of Ypres to delve into the legacy of the Great War, we were confronted with the profound magnitude of sacrifice, standing in reverence amidst hallowed memorials like Tyne Cot Cemetery and Menin Gate.  Participating in the poignant ‘Last Post’ service alongside families of fallen soldiers left an indelible imprint on our hearts, underscoring the enduring importance of collective remembrance.

As the term progresses, our students will have the opportunity to share their European experiences and the invaluable lessons they have gleaned with the wider community through presentations. We eagerly anticipate continuing to cultivate and promote a global mindset among our students, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the interconnectedness of our world.

Term 1 Parent Survey Feedback

We extend our gratitude to the 75 parents who graciously participated in our Term 1 Parent Perception survey.  Your insights serve as the cornerstone of our continuous improvement efforts.  Currently, the College is compiling and analysing the data, juxtaposing it with the invaluable feedback received from over 600 Year 7 – 12 students during Term 1.

Among the insightful recommendations provided by parents was the extension of the Headstart program, our end of year transition program, across all Year Levels.  We are delighted to announce that the College has embraced this suggestion wholeheartedly, implementing it for the 2025 academic year.  This extension will enable students across all year levels to familiarise themselves with their 2025 Homeroom teacher, subject teachers, and class members, fostering a smoother transition and nurturing a sense of belonging from the outset.

Concluding Remarks

This term we look forward to the Year 8 camp, Year 11 Central Australia Trip, Year 10 Futures Week, the Junior Production of Frozen, Kilbreda Performing Arts Festival, House Athletics Carnival, House Cross Country, the Mother’s Day Breakfast, and our Careers Expo just to name a few.  The opportunities for our students to pursue their interests and discover their passion are ample at Kilbreda and we look forward to supporting all our students throughout Term 2.

As always, I wish all our students, families, and staff the best for the term ahead.
