Three C’s Project: Building Compassion and Communication at Mercy Health

As part of our Enrichment Program, our VCE VM students participated in a series of visits to Mercy Health Corben aged care facility. Through creative activities, shared conversations and simple moments of connection, our students developed vital interpersonal skills including active listening, empathy and respectful communication. Many students stepped outside their comfort zones to engage meaningfully with residents, showing kindness, patience and the ability to adapt their communication style. These interactions not only deepened their understanding of ageing and community but also helped build confidence and teamwork, essential soft skills that will serve them well in both their personal and professional lives.

Year 12 VCE VM Excursion to FareShare

Student Reflection

Last fortnight the Year 12 VCE VM students recently took part in an excursion to FareShare kitchen, where we had the opportunity to contribute and help staff and volunteers by doing food preparation for meals which will go to people in need. We completed hands-on work in the kitchen, working in groups to help prepare food by cutting and prepping raw chicken, portioned vegetable curry into containers to be sealed, and unpacked cream for use in meals. It was a rewarding experience that not only built practical teamwork skills but also gave us a greater awareness of food insecurity and the importance of giving back to the community.
