Project Tote

On 17 November, our students presented their ‘Project Tote’, Tote Bags to Sr Brigid Arthur AO in the VCAL Room. The Tote bags were filled with food and a recipe card which was connected to the student’s family, culture, and community. Sr Brigid accepted them on behalf of BASP in this culmination of the community partnership.

The following is an excerpt of the speech that the VCAL students presented on the occasion:

Kilbreda’s VCAL Students welcome you, Sr Brigid to our classroom. We want to tell you our story of PROJECT TOTE. We started by thinking about these words, shared meals, communities, family traditional dinners and favourite recipes.

The next step involved us drawing design ideas that connected to these words. When we had completed our ideas, we chose our top three designs. With the amazing help of Ms Limogiannis – we used the Cricut Machine to transfer and cut out our designs. Once this was done, with the incredible assistance of Ms Clark, we cut and created the bags. – Actually, Ms Clark did the lion’s share of the bag making; however, a group of us ironed on the designs.

Going back to the notion of food and community, shared meals and favourite recipes, we created a recipe card and gathered the items to place in our TOTE bags.

Today, Sr Brigid, we present to you our TOTE bags – which we would like you to gift to the BASP group. It is our hope that through shared meals and community – we are representatives of Kilbreda’s mission in that we are advocates for the vulnerable and act with a spirit of justice for all. We endeavour to walk with, and have empathy for all, speaking and acting with integrity.”

BASP Cookie Bake Sale

On Thursday 10 November, the Year 11 VCAL – 2 class hosted a successful Cookie Bake Sale for BASP and raised $146.50. The cookies sold were choc chip, M&M’s and gluten free. In preparation for the Cookie Bake Sale, we created posters for advertisements and conducted market research, surveying staff and students at the College on which cookie flavour they preferred. After collecting the results, the ingredients were organised and we began baking in the kitchen, making over 300 cookies! At lunchtime the majority of students lined up for a taste of the cookies.

We sold out within 15 minutes! Well done to the VCAL – 2 class on this amazing achievement!
