Year 12 Caritas Fundraisers

Mini Fete

VCE VM provides us with the unique opportunity to become creative and play our part by helping others. When given these opportunities we can support multiple fundraising campaigns and make a difference.

Every year, our College raises money for Caritas, helping to provide others with supplies and opportunities to further develop their lives in ways they cannot themselves. This year, my class decided to create our own fundraising experience which allowed everyone to get involved. As a class we decided that a fun and creative way of doing this was by holding our own mini fete.

Our ideas were inventive however some were a little impractical and left us scratching our heads deciding on different activities and attractions to incorporate in our fete. Finally, our class settled on a chocolate toss, selling popcorn and soft drinks, Nerf target game, ball toss and a water splash.

As a class we produced our own advertisement and designed our activities with supplies we found around the College. We worked as a team, creating our ideas and letting them come to life. Through the process we created and disposed of many ideas and inventions but happily settled for our six fete classics. We put it all together for an enjoyable lunchtime activity and encouraged everyone to get involved.

Through this experience I feel my classmates created deeper connections and formed new and exciting friendships. We accomplished a successful fundraiser and involved our Kilbreda peers in participating and enjoying our fundraising along the way.

Pancakes

Something I have always enjoyed about VCE VM, is that an aspect of this course allows us to learn with hands-on experience. As part of the VCE VM Numeracy program, we planned and facilitated a fundraiser for Caritas. This year, my class continued the tradition of making pancakes. In class, we brainstormed the ingredients needed, ideas for the sale and how the day itself would unfold.  We also ensured we did not forget to practice the recipe!

Our class ran into some obstacles along the way, like issues with the video advertisement we created and the proposed date we had planned. However, we worked out how to solve the issues and together and, in the end, we achieved a successful outcome.

Overall, the day went well, and honestly, I had a lot of fun. I feel we planned and organised the day effectively. Our class has grown a lot closer than we were at the beginning of our VCE VM journey due to being able to learn and lead together. Also, we were able to have fun along the way!

FareShare Australia

In March, Our VCE VM Year 11 students participated in a shift at FareShare. FareShare is a charity which has been cooking free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough since 2001. They believe that every Australian deserves a nutritious meal, regardless of their circumstances or location.

FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane, where chefs and volunteers work hand-in-hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need. Each year, FareShare transforms rescued, donated and our homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact.

Their healthy meals are given away free to frontline charities such as soup vans, homeless shelters, women’s refuges, First Nations organisations and groups providing disaster relief. The need for meal relief has never been higher with the soaring cost of living, frequent natural disasters and the lingering effects of the pandemic hurting millions of Australians.

FareShare is a community powered by volunteers. They depend upon volunteers to cook, grow, and deliver food and to help in their warehouse, office, kitchens and on special projects. They appreciate our time and support in providing much needed nourishment and peace of mind for less fortunate people in our community.

While we were at FareShare our students:

  • Portioned chicken for 1000 meals
  • Chopped and prepared 300kg of broccoli (enough for 2000 portions!)
  • Assembled and packed 570 single serve roast chicken, rice and broccoli dishes
  • Affixed hundreds of labels
  • Folder a basket of tea towels
  • Cleaned and reset the kitchen

Congratulations to our Year 11 VCE VM students. You all did a wonderful job throughout your shift!
