Welcome to Sport at Kilbreda for 2023

With sport being ‘back on’ in 2022, it was incredible to see so many students take up the opportunity to participate in our House Swimming and Athletics carnivals as well as representing the College in the many sports on offer. We had great success with many teams winning their division in the SCSA and SEGAP competitions and we look forward to this continuing in 2023.

House Sport

House Swimming Carnival

The House Swimming Carnival will be held on Monday 27 February at Oakleigh. The students compete in their houses Tullow (red), Brigid (green), Delany (yellow) and Kildare (blue) and can enter 25m and 50m events in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke as well as novelties and relays. If time permits, the staff versus student and fastest swimmer race are also highlights of the day. Last year was a hotly contested event with Brigid coming out on top!

House Athletics Carnival

The House Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday March at Duncan McKinnon Reserve. Last year we saw record numbers of participation and Brigid being crowned champions with just 61 points separating first and fourth.

House Leaders

Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as House Leaders for 2023. We look forward to building the house program with them.

Brigid:  Marley Haenga and Leah Allen
Delany: Raani Altamura and Chloe Cronin
Kildare: Hayley Stewart and Sophie Goddard
Tullow: Hannah Kotow and Charlotte Budimir

Catholic Girls Sport Association of Victoria (CGSAV)

2023 sees a new name for the SCSA competition with it now being called the Catholic Girls Sport Association of Victoria (CGSAV). These events typically take place during the day, except for our Swimming Sports which is held in the evening. The carnivals are held mostly in Melbourne and we compete against other Catholic girls schools from Victoria. For most competitions we send a Junior (Year 7 and 8), Intermediate (Year 9 and 10) and Senior (Year 11 and 12) team.

For further information on these Carnivals you can head to the website https://www.scsa.org.au/home/ or follow the Facebook page Secondary Catholic Sports Association for up to date info and tournament results.

South Eastern Girls Activity Programs (SEGAP)

SEGAP is our South Eastern Girls Activity Programs which takes place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (2.00pm to 5.00pm). This competition takes place in Terms 2, 3 and 4 with different sports being offered to students from Years 7 to 10 each term.

In Term 2, the sports will be Badminton, Basketball and Futsal. This competition takes place at Monash University with game being played at 2.45pm to 3.30pm or 3.30pm to 4.15pm. All teams will be transported to the venue via our school buses. Trials for these sports will normally take place in the term before, so towards the end of Term 1 SEGAP trials will begin.

Other Sport

Kilbreda also competes in a number of other competitions in a range of sports. The Independent Schools Golf competition will also be held early in Term 2 and if your child is a keen golfer can you please ask her to contact us ASAP!

Team Trials

The trials for these sports will take place approximately 3 to 5 weeks prior to the event. This year we are trialing a new system with communication taking place via the Sport Google classroom (code to join is drqgnon). We encourage students to regularly check this communication as it is up to them to know what is going on each term.

Once teams are selected you will receive an email through the Parent Portal (PAM) with all the details about the event. You will then need to give parent consent for your child to participate.

Once again we encourage all students to try some new sports and get involved in Sport at Kilbreda.
