SCSA Cross Country

Despite the terrible weather, this year’s SCSA Cross Country competition was a fantastic day out for the whole Kilbreda team. We had an early start with the cold and rain, but the spirits were high as we made our way to Yarra Bend Park. The race itself was far from easy with a sharp hill and muddy paths complicating the 3km course. However, the support shown from the whole team was awesome, with all the girls cheering each other on, making the race much easier to complete.

Our teachers were also amazing with their energy and encouragement, making it such a fun day for everybody. Overall, the day was a huge success with four runners placing in the top ten of their respective races and the college placing second in Division 1 after an amazing effort from the whole team. The McDonalds stop on the way home is always a highly anticipated benefit and was great compensation for our battling of the elements, bringing some energy back to the tired competitors! This was my last SCSA Cross Country for Kilbreda and it was an amazing way to finish my running journey at the college.

St Kilda Football Club Clinic

On Wednesday 15 June a group of students traveled to RSEA Park after school to compete in a football clinic run by St Kilda AFLW player, Hannah Priest. With SCSA AFL coming up next term the clinic was a chance for our aspiring players to hone their skills prior to the carnival. Year 9 student, Amelia Presnell reflects on the day – “The St Kilda clinic run by St Kilda’s AFLW captain Hannah Priest was a great opportunity. We all learnt some really valuable skills that those of us who play footy for a club can take on to the field. My favourite drill was when we had to stand opposite our partner with a ball in between us. Hannah would call out different body parts that we had to touch, then she would call ‘ball’ and we had to grab the ball to beat our partner. Overall, it was a great clinic that many of us benefited from.”
