Other Sport

School Girls Championships

Congratulations to the Year 7 and 8 students who represented KIlbreda at the School Girls Championships grand final game last week:

Cleo Ruthven, Isla Morgan, Ally Dean, Lexi Teleky, Jasmine Cusack, Elise Napier, Sienna Davis, Lily Barclay, Molly Rizun and Grace Lamb

On Thursday 8 September, the Junior A Netball Team participated in the Victorian Netball Association Championships at the State Netball and Hockey Centre. This competition was significantly more challenging as the team competed against the top Netball teams around Victoria in the Junior Division.

Despite this, the team rose to the challenge and played at their very best. After four close losses, Kilbreda defeated Rowville 10 to 9 in what was a fantastic game. Overall, this was a great experience for the girls and should all be extremely proud of their achievements across the day.

Staff vs Student Sport

Over the last few weeks, we have been lucky enough to find some time to have some friendly games against the Year 12 Sport Leaders. We started with Volleyball a few weeks ago where the staff defeated the students by two sets to one. The students definitely started to win some strong points back towards the end of the second set.

We played netball last week and it was definitely an advantage to have some very tall staff players in defence against Maddi Torpey (great game, Mr Blackshaw). It was great to see lots of students turn up to watch the game and cheer on both teams. Once again, the staff took out the “Staff vs Student Trophy”.

The students have one more opportunity to play against the staff on Friday at Brigidine Day when they have a game of Mat Ball.

Congratulations to Charli McNeil who competed in the Australian Interschool Snowsports Nationals last week. In the Snowboard Cross on Thursday, she came 26th and in the Snowboard Giant Slalom on Friday she came 19th. We are so proud, Charli!

Community Sport

Mentone Little Athletics Club

The experience of participating in a school district athletics carnival is often a catalyst for children and young people (and their families) to look for further opportunities to participate in athletics.

Mentone LAC is an inclusive club and we welcome children and young people of all abilities.  Our newly-resurfaced track at Dolomore Reserve opened again earlier this year and is a well-used community facility.

At the end of last season, Little Athletics Victoria took the decision to include an U17 age group and this season, children and young people from U6 to U17 are able to participate.  The Little Athletics Victoria season commences in October and Mentone LAC’s registration portal is now open here.  Our first session for the season is on Saturday 8 October.
