CGSAV Athletics

The CGSAV Division 1 Athletics Carnival was held on Thursday 18 May at Lakeside Oval. It was a lovely day and all students performed incredibly well. With a number of students unable to attend due to illness it was great to see so many students fill in at the last minute.

As the host school of the carnival, we were very appreciative of the students who came out on the day to assist with running the event. It all ran very smoothly!

Training sessions are going very well. The group has learnt the routine and are preparing to be put into teams to work on a specific start, finish poses and transitions.

The training sessions will continue every Wednesday until the end of the term and into Term 3.

House Sport

House Fun Run

It was a beautiful morning last Tuesday for the House Fun at Karkarook Park. The Years 9 to 12 race was run first, with Jas Perry (Year 10) coming home in first place, followed closely by Charlotte Maclean and Bridget Koczek (both Year 10), while Emily Smith (Year 11) was the first senior across the line followed by Year 12 students, Leah Allen and Michaela Meyer. Well done to all the Years 9 to 12 students who signed up for this race and completed the ‘almost 3km’ course.

The junior race was hotly contested with a large number of students electing to run. Year 7 student Madeline Donaldson crossed the line first followed by Year 8 students, Matilda Harrison and Celine Incani.

Other Sport

3 v 3 Basketball

Over the last two Fridays, we have had teams compete in the Victorian 3 v 3 Basketball Championships qualifying days.

For our Junior team it was the first time most of them had played the 3 v 3 format in an organised competition, so it was a great learning experience. Well done to all for their participation.

The Intermediate teams had a great day with both teams going through the pool rounds undefeated and then dominant winners in the quarter finals ensuring they qualified for the state finals to be held next term.

The Division 1 team went on to win the day defeating Haileybury and Box Hill Senior Secondary in the semi and grand finals in very close games. The Division 2 team played some great team basketball to make it through to the grand final where they narrowly lost to Box Hill Senior Secondary in overtime.
