CGSAV Futsal

On Friday 28 April, the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Futsal teams went to the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre to compete in an interschool competition for CGSAV Futsal.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to be able to compete and play with others from school in indoor soccer.  Unfortunately, my team (the Seniors) didn’t have much luck, as we only won one of our games, but we all did our best, improved as a team and had a great time! I really look forward to being able to do this again next year.

Roisin Mulholland
Year 11

Throughout the CGSAV Futsal competition, we, the Intermediate futsal team, played a total of seven games, the results of which were three wins, two draws and two losses. All games had close scores, the gap never exceeding more than than points! Unfortunately we did not make it to the grand final. However, the dynamic of our team strengthened the more games we played. Continuing through the competition, our teamwork, communication and coordination between one another notably improved. Our individual skills shone as each player brought their best to the table, mixing together to create a cohesive and collaborative force.

Our team spirit was high even when we lost. Regardless of the results, we never let our smiles fade and kept on going, supporting and encouraging one another. A single goal would result in the uproar of our team’s sidelines, hugs, cheers and compliments rushing over as we would celebrate every point made.

The spirit of our College is demonstrated through these actions and even though we may have lost, we are proud of ourselves and the effort we placed into the game.

The Juniors (Year 7 and 8) futsal tournament was an exciting and well-fought competition held at MSAC against schools such as Killester College.

We left school at 7:30am excited for our all day Futsal tournament eager to get out on the field. Our first game we were all very new to playing futsal but as the day progressed we kept learning and getting better thanks to our coach, Mr Kelly.

Despite narrowly losing three of our matches, we all played hard and ended up, winning two games including a 3-0 win and drawing one 2-2.

Every player contributed to the team’s overall success, rotating every minute so everyone had a chance to show their skills. Some of the team had never played football / soccer before but you wouldn’t have known it watching them – they were really good!

Most importantly, we all enjoyed ourselves throughout the tournament. The team represented the College really well.

CGSAV Badminton

The Badminton tournament took place at MSAC in Albert Park.

On 2 May, the Kilbreda Badminton team travelled to MSAC in Albert Park, to compete in the CGSAV Badminton tournament. Our Seniors, Intermediates and Juniors had a big day ahead in Division 1 of the competition, where we were up against Mount St Josephs, OLSH, Sacred Heart GC Geelong, Sacred Heart GC Oakleigh, Kilester and Mater Cristi.

Following six games from each team, our Senior team of 10 girls just made the grand final by percentage. When competing against Killester during the day, the team was not prepared for what Killester was able to bring. Coming in as the underdogs to Killester, the team performed exceptionally well in the final, coming much closer in score but sadly lost.

Overall, the day was a success with many of us catching up with friends from other schools as well as many of us trying a new sport.

Victorian Schools Association Championships – Swimming

Congratulations to Celine Incani, Mia Hayden, Indi Hanlon and Kate Golby who have been selected to represent CGSAV at the Victorian Schools Association Championships on Monday 8 May. This sees the top swimmers from each association swim off against each other. We wish Celine, Mia, Indi and Kate all the best.

Umpiring @ Marvel Stadium

Following on from our Umpiring Course in 2022, some of our students were given the opportunity to umpire at Marvel Stadium during the holidays. They umpired on Sunday 23 April at the St Kilda vs Carlton game. They were also there for the ANZAC commemoration ceremony before the game.

The students were responsible for umpiring about 14 primary aged students in a modified game of AFL football called Auskick. Hopefully there will be other opportunities throughout the season to umpire again. Well done Lily Proudfoot Napier, Jacinta Crowley, Leila Timms and Shelby Christopher.

Congratulations

We congratulate Year 10 student, Georgia Floyd, who has just returned from the U18’s National Lacrosse Tournament in Perth, where her team (Victoria) won the championship! It was a week of games played against really tough competition from all over Australia and New Zealand.

Georgia plays throughout the year for Camberwell Lacrosse Club and this year will be playing in the U18’s and state competitions. Incredible! Well done Georgia.
