House Athletics – Delany Captains Report

On 29 April, Kilbreda actively took part in our yearly House Athletics Carnival, engaging in a friendly competition to secure points for their respective Houses – Delany, Kildare, Brigid and Tullow.

It was a great day where students from every year level eagerly participated wearing their bright House colors and costumes getting involved in a multitude of fun track and field events such as shot put, long jump, high jump, 800 metres, 100 metres, relays and many more!  There were many highlights of day one including the walk, where all year levels united and walked around the track together, laughing, chanting and having lots of fun!

The day ended with the House chants, where each House chanted as loudly as they could to try and earn some extra points. Each House put forth their best effort, but Delany was the loudest, helping secure the win for the athletics carnival! The day was a huge success. Go Delany!!!!

Records

  • Harriet Dale (Year 10) broke the High Jump record clearing 1.50m This record had been set in 1988 (Alicia Gray)
  • Emily Smith (Year 12) broke her own walk 800m record recording a time of 3.32.54sec

CGSAV Sport

CGSAV Hockey

We had two teams participate in the CGSAV Hockey at the State Hockey Centre and the other teams competing were Mount Saint Joseph’s (MSJ), Santa Maria College and Mater Christi College.

The Senior team drew 0-0 with MSJ but lost their other two games. They were learning a lot of new rules very quickly; learning how to defend a shot on goal; where to stand to block the ball and how to defend a short corner. The skills learnt will help in Hockey 2025.

The Junior team played some great ‘team hockey’. They defeated MSJ 4-0; defeated Mater Christi 9-0 and defeated Santa Maria 3-0. The goal scorers were Neve, Zara, Scarlett, Daisy, April and Abbey. Kikki Williams stepped in the day before the competition as the “goalie”. A great effort Kikki!

They played Santa Maria in the grand final game and drew 2-2 in the dying seconds of the game. They played an extra two minute halves with the “golden goal” rule played: first team to score a goal wins. Unfortunately, they lost in the last few seconds of the game when Santa Maria scored a goal from a penalty short corner.

Congratulations to the following players:

Abbey Leonard Neve Hoult Matilda Laughlin
April O’Brien Madeline Donaldson Scarlett Thomas
Maddison Gerente Zara Thompson Daisy Quenette
Jemma Hutchinson Grace Watts Charlotte Bond
Kikki Williams Charlotte Hay Amira Bird

Other Sport

3 X Cup Basketball Championships

On Wednesday 24 April, Kilbreda had two teams qualify for the State 3 X Cup Basketball Championships which were held at the State Basketball Centre.

The Division 2 team were down a player due to illness but played exceptionally well throughout the rounds to qualify for the quarter finals. Unfortunately, an injury meant they entered this game with only two players. Despite this, the girls played amazing and only narrowly went down. Well done to Lucy C, Liv S, Liv R and Sophie for their efforts in qualifying and on the day.

The Division 1 team dropped two games during the rounds but due to other results finished second in their pool and straight through to the quarter finals. The girls played some great team basketball to advance to the semi finals where they defeated a very tough Doncaster Secondary College 21 to 12. The grand final against a very tall and talented Templestowe College was a close game throughout with neither team able to gain much of a break. In the end, the height of Templestowe was too much with our team going down by 3 points. Second in the state was still an amazing achievement! Congrats to Bianca SJ, Liv M, Ella W and Jas P.

VSAC Swimming

Last Monday, Mia Hayden (Year 12) and Hayley O’Shea were selected to represent CGSAV at the Victorian Schools Association Championships for swimming. The students were selected following their outstanding performance at the CGSAV Carnival held in Term 1. Hayley and Mia swam exceptionally well in their events and the CGSAV team, which consisted of students across the CGSAV schools finished third overall in the girls division. A great achievement and a great reward for the hours of training that these students commit to.
