CGSAV Sport Leadership Breakfast

On Tuesday 14 February, the House Leaders were invited to Marian College for the CGSAV annual Sport Leadership Breakfast. At the breakfast, we were given the opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow Brigidine School Sport Leaders. We then had the privilege of meeting Olympian Steve Moneghetti, who shared with us his story, how hard work and dedication led him to success, winning four Gold Medals in marathon running.

Inspiring us leaders to rise to challenges and push to achieve our own goals, he emphasised how leadership can be seen two ways, leading from the front or leading from behind. This quote stuck with us, as in 2023, our collective goal as House Leaders is to push others towards success; the accomplishment of those around you will always motivate personal achievement!

The morning was a great chance to bond with students from local Catholic Schools, not only our competitors but now our friends. We are very thankful to be given this opportunity and hope that next year’s House Leaders enjoy the breakfast as much as we did.

CGSAV Triathlon

It was a very early start to the day with a 6.30am departure from the College. There was much excitement in the bus as we drove down the freeway to Eastern Beach, Geelong for the Triathlon.

The Senior students competed first, swimming 200m in the bay, riding 5.2km and then running 2km to the finish line. A special congratulations to Michaela Meyer who has represented Kilbreda in all six Triathlons and who finished in 6th position. Great result Michaela!

The Intermediates were next, followed by the Juniors. They had to swim 200m, ride 4.2km and run 2km.

Celine Incani and Kate Golby were first out of the water for their age groups. Celine went on to finish 5th and Kate in 7th position.

The Juniors finished 3rd; Intermediates 5th and Seniors 4th

Overall Kilbreda finished in 4th position out of 10 schools.

CGSAV Swimming and Diving

The Swimming and Diving program started two weeks ago and already the attendance has been incredible. Initially students were invited based on their involvement in the 2022 team.

After the House Swimming sports next week more students will be invited to join the swimming squad.  After each training session students return to school for a well-deserved breakfast. Thanks to the House Sport Leaders who have been assisting with breakfast. A special thank you to Greg and his team in the Canteen for supplying breakfast. The toasties look delicious!!

Good luck to all of our swimmers and divers over the next few weeks in the lead up to the CGSAV Swimming Carnival.

Sports Team Trials

Indoor Cricket and Tennis trials have started. We encourage all students to read the messages on SIMON to know when the trials are on.  There is also a Sports Google Classroom page for students to sign into drqgnon. This will give them up to date information about all sports events at Kilbreda.

Year 7 and 8 House Activities

The Year 12 Sport Leaders have started lunchtime activities this week for the Year 7 and 8 students on Day 9. They are encouraging all students to participate in some House activities over the next few weeks in the lead up to both the House Swimming and Athletic Carnivals.  Some of the sports will be Mat Ball, Netball, Volleyball and Dodgeball.

House Swimming Carnival

Next Monday 27 February, we will hold the first whole school House Swimming Carnival at Oakleigh Recreation Pool. The students will be able to participate in both 25m and 50m events in backstroke, freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke. There will also be novelty events and relays. Throughout the day the students will be encouraged to participate in all events. Based on the results of the 50m events students will be invited to join our early morning swimming program in the lead up to the CGSAV Interschool Swimming Competition on Thursday 23 March at MSAC.

Our House Leaders are looking forward to their first big event leading their teams.
