House Swimming Carnival

On Monday 26 February, the entire school actively took part in the renowned Kilbreda House Swimming Carnival wearing costumes in their House colors, Delany (yellow), Kildare (blue), Brigid (green) or Tullow (red). It was a great day and everyone participated in swimming events, which showcased individual swimming talent, embraced friendly competition and had a great time.

Every year level enthusiastically engaged, contributing to a vibrant and spirited atmosphere. The day commenced with the 50m freestyle, setting the tone for an energetic and fun-filled day. The following events unfolded with backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and year-level novelties! All races led up to the ‘Fastest 50’, with Mia Hayden from Year 12 winning for the fourth consecutive year!

The highlight of the day was the House swim, where every student had the chance to jump in, swim as many laps as they pleased with their friends and earn points for their House. This event transformed the pool into an energetic atmosphere, filled with floaties and a variety of red, green, blue and yellow caps.

Following that, it was time for the relays where students teamed up in groups of four, collaborating to secure victory in the ultimate race! In the final relay, the teachers joined in, competing against the Year 12 students. The teachers won! Let’s see if the students emerge victorious next year!

At the end of the day, everyone gathered their belongings and assembled into their houses – Tullow, Kildare, Brigid and Delany for the last opportunity to earn points through spirited chants! Each House put forth their best effort, but Delany was the loudest, helping secure the win for the swimming carnival! Kildare followed, then Tullow, and finally, Brigid.

The day was a tremendous success, providing students with the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and have fun with friends, making it an excellent beginning to the week. We can’t wait for the House Athletics Carnival!

CGSAV Triathlon

The 2024 Triathlon was a surreal experience. Being able to test our physical abilities, whilst spending a lovely day surrounded by friends was an experience in itself.

Every year the Triathlon rolls around, and every year a group of girls will hop on the bus and take the trip down to Geelong, and every year those same girls at the shore, then at the start line will regret that decision! At the start line, in our Tri tops and goggles, every one of us is almost frozen with nerves, terrified for what is to come! Yet, once the swim is over, the ride done, the run finished, we all pledge ourselves to do it again the following year! The feeling of pushing your physical capabilities to the limit alongside your friends is euphoric. It is so rewarding to try something new and test your endurance, similarly, seeing the students get around each other to cheer for one another is heartwarming.

As a school we performed outrageously well. Kilbreda came second overall! The Juniors came second, the Inters carried us in first place and the Seniors came third. Many of the students came in the Top 10 in their respective age groups and it was magnificent to see them perform so well.

It was a lot of fun, and the Big Macs on the way home definitely contributed to the awesome experience. day. Overall, it was a really rewarding day, which left us all drowsy as we closed our eyes for a moment on the bus ride home.
