Sport

Welcome to Sport at Kilbreda for 2024, where we acknowledge 120 years of Sport here at the College from 1904 to 2024!  2023 was a very successful sporting year for Kilbreda with many of our students participating in our House Swimming and Athletics Carnivals as well as representing the College in the many sports on offer. We had great success too with many teams winning their division in the CGSAV and SEGAP competitions and we look forward to this continuing in 2024.

House Sport

House Swimming Carnival

The House Swimming Carnival will be held on Monday 26 February at Oakleigh. The students compete in their houses Tullow (red), Brigid (green), Delany (yellow) and Kildare (blue) and can enter 25m and 50m events in Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke as well as novelties and relays. If time permits, the staff vs student and fastest swimmer races are also highlights of the day. Last year was a hotly contested event with Kildare coming out on top!

House Athletics Carnival

The House Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 29 April at Duncan McKinnon Reserve. Last year we saw record numbers of participation across all field and running events. Brigid were the winning team at last year’s carnival.

Catholic Girls Sport Association of Victoria (CGSAV)

The CGSAV competition sees Kilbreda compete against other Catholic girls’ schools around Melbourne and Geelong in a variety of sports. These events take place during the day and are held mostly at a venue in Melbourne and surrounds. For most competitions we send a Junior (Years 7 and 8) team, Intermediate (Years 9 and 10) team and a Senior (Years 11 and 12) team.

For further information on the CGSAV carnivals you can head to their website https://www.scsa.org.au/home/ or follow the Facebook page – Secondary Catholic Sports Association for up-to-date information and tournament results.

CGSAV Sports Leaders Breakfast

On Tuesday 13 February, the House Leaders were given the great opportunity and privilege to attend the CGSAV Sport Leaders Breakfast with guest speaker Emma Carney. Emma won 19 Triathlon World Cups in her time as a triathlete before she was forced to retire due to cardiac problems. Emma spoke about her hunger to win and dedication to the sport. She spoke about the difficulties of being a woman in the sporting world and how she managed to persevere and break through the male dominated sporting industry.

Emma emphasised how she strived to become the best that she could no matter what other people said and the hurdles she had to overcome. She proved this act of determination time and time again, which led her to become one of the best triathletes the world had ever seen. We are very grateful to have been given this extraordinary experience and feel so much pride to be able to represent the College as the 2024 Sport Leaders.

Team Trials

The trials for these sports will take place approximately 3 to 5 weeks prior to the event. As was the case last year communication will take place via the Sport Google classroom. The code to join is on the notices on SIMON. We encourage students to regularly check this communication as it is up to them to know what is going on each term.

Once teams are selected you will receive an email through PAM, the parent portal with all of the details about the event. You will then need to give parent consent for your child to participate.

Once again we encourage all students to try some new sports and get involved in sport at Kilbreda. If you have any questions about the sport program then please contact us at maree.clark@kilbreda.vic.edu.au and joanne.wood@kilbreda.vic.edu.au
