As we look ahead to planning for the next school year, we remain grounded in the joys of daily life in 2025, finding excitement and fulfilment in each day. There’s still so much to enjoy and celebrate!

VCE Biology Zoo Excursion

In Term 3, our VCE Biology students visited Melbourne Zoo to extend their classroom learning through real-world experiences. On Tuesday 9 September, the Unit 4 students explored the primate exhibits to apply their understanding of human evolution, observing anatomical and behavioural traits shared with our closest relatives. The following day, the Unit 2 students conducted investigations in the butterfly house, collecting data on factors that affect butterfly feeding behaviour for their Unit 2 SAC. Both groups also enjoyed exploring the zoo’s other exhibits.

National Youth Science Forum Year 12 Program

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Year 12 Program is designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in STEM and to encourage continued studies in these fields. Participants stay at university colleges and are immersed in science and technology, and have the opportunity to participate in tours of science and technology facilities, learn about cutting-edge research, engage with industry partners and research providers, learn about university, training and STEM career pathways and mix with other like-minded students from all over Australia.

We are proud to announce that Lara Mhanna (Year 11) has been accepted into the program and will be attending the summer session in Brisbane next January. Entry into this program is highly competitive, and we congratulate Lara on her impressive application. We look forward to hearing all about her amazing experience next year.

Applications for the 2027 summer program will be open next June for Year 11 students. Please see link below for more information.

Science Talent Search 2025 Winners

This year, 21 students took part in the Science Talent Search organised by the Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria. Our students showcased creativity and ingenuity through remarkable work, such as inventing games, writing illustrated stories, producing animated videos from scratch and composing original music. We even had some competitors present their projects to judges at MLC! They invested significant time and effort both in class and on their own outside of lessons. The competition is highly competitive, with more than 2,000 entries from across Victoria being judged.
