Principal’s Report

At our College Assembly a few weeks ago, I spoke about the endless potential that resides within each of us and reflected on the children’s story book “Maybe: A Story About the Endless Potential in All of Us” by Kobi Yamada. Here are some excerpts from my address to students about the potential that lies within each of them.

I want you to think back to when you first embarked on your academic journey, all of those years ago when you were in Prep. You were like blank pages in a book, waiting to be filled with knowledge, experiences, and dreams. “Maybe” is a story that teaches us that the pages of our lives are never truly blank but are instead brimming with potential; potential that is waiting to be discovered and unleashed.

In this heartwarming and inspiring tale, we follow the journey of a young girl named Mia who stumbles upon a magical bookshop. In this shop, books have the power to predict the future, but there’s a catch – the endings are never certain. Mia learns that the choices she makes can influence the course of her own story. Your lives are no different. You hold the pen, and your choices will shape your story.

The central message of “Maybe” is clear: we are not defined by our past or limited by our circumstances, or even by the mistakes we make. Our potential is boundless, and the possibilities are endless. It reminds us that we have the power to rewrite our narratives, to chart new courses, and to dream bigger than we ever thought possible.

Each of you has a unique story waiting to be written, filled with triumphs, setbacks, and unexpected twists. Some chapters may be challenging but remember that adversity often leads to growth and resilience. “Maybe” teaches us that even in the face of adversity, we can find our inner strength and rise above the challenges that life presents.

“Maybe: A Story About the Endless Potential in All of Us” is a testament to the incredible potential that resides within each one of you. It’s a reminder that you are the authors of your own stories, and your potential knows no bounds.

Believing in themselves and their ability to succeed in their studies is a crucial mindset for students. When students have faith in their own potential, they are more likely to take on academic challenges, set high educational goals, and persevere through the ups and downs of their learning journey. This self-belief fuels their motivation and resilience, enabling them to overcome obstacles and reach their academic aspirations.

As students prepare for their final assessments and end of year examinations, believing in themselves and their ability to succeed is particularly important. I hope that all students approach these final weeks of the school year with a positive growth mindset and know, that with effort, they can achieve their best!
