Principal’s Report

Term 3 has commenced with a number of wonderful programs and events extending student learning in both the subjects they are studying and through their involvement in our co-curricular program.  In this first fortnight of the term alone we have had:

  • Year 12 Inspire Day
  • A three-day Indigenous Immersion
  • Our junior school production of High School Musical Jnr
  • Intermediate Champions Cup Basketball
  • Our inaugural Women in STEM lunch
  • ‘Big Day In’ at Melbourne University for Year 10 and 11 digital technologies/computing students
  • SCSA AFL competition
  • Year 9 BRIDGES ‘Amazing Race’ through the city
  • VCE Unit 3/4 English guest speaker, author Rosalie Ham
  • VCE Drama excursion to the Malthouse Theatre
  • VCE Art excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria
  • Year 7 Netball Day

Programs and activities such as these contribute to the academic, social and emotional learning of our students. They can ignite curiosity, extend friendships and social connections, and inspire students to pursue new or existing areas of interest. They also contribute to the development of key transferable skills, often referred to as ‘soft skills’ such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking and leadership. It has been wonderful to see the way in which students have actively engaged in these programs and activities! A very big thank you to all of the teachers and support staff who have planned and facilitated these for the benefit of our students.

Congratulations to all students and staff involved in our production of High School Musical Jnr last week! Preparations for this production commenced early in the year and the cast, crew and production team spent countless hours rehearsing to bring this energetic musical to the stage. Eight shows were performed over a five-day period, delighting the audience each time who were so impressed with the quality and professionalism of the production!

The lyrics to the main song “We’re All In This Together” remind us of the unique talents, interests and personalities that people have and that by embracing this and coming together we can achieve even more.

Everyone is special in their own way

We make each other strong

We’re not the same, we’re different in a good way

Together’s where we belong

We’re all in this together…

This is very much in keeping with our Mission and Values, where we respect the value and uniqueness of each person and strongly encourage a sense of team and ‘being all in this together’.

This Sunday 24 July is World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Pope Francis established this day in 2021, choosing the Sunday closest to the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, Grandparents of Jesus. In recognition of the significant and unique role that grandparents hold in our lives I share with you this prayer:

God of love,
We thank you for our wonderful grandparents.
They bring such joy and happiness into our lives.
Thank you for all the special times that we have with them.

Please watch over them, protect them and care for them now.
May they know your goodness and love always.

Amen
