VCE Drama

The 3/4 VCE Drama students are currently working on their ensemble performance, for their performance evening on Monday 22 May. The stimulus of ‘’the Pursuit for Perfection’’ has allowed for much brainstorming and improvisation ideas around pursuing perfection in education, society expectations, social perfection, perfection surrounding your body, ways in which one goes about trying to achieve perfection and the development of technology. We have been working hard, developing ideas since head start last year. We are currently in the stage of rehearsing and starting to refine our scenes, organise costumes, props and set, with the guidance of our teacher. The three ensemble groups have been sharing and supporting each other through the whole process, sharing our developments along the way and gaining valuable feedback for further improvements. As the excitement builds for our performance night, we are looking forward for all of our hard work to come together, to share important, meaningful and relevant messages and will continue to support each other and most importantly have fun.

Top Acts – Dance

On 7 March, the Unit 1 and 3 Dance students went to the Melbourne Recital Centre to see Top Class Dance. The Top Class Dance performance included top scoring Dance solos from the 2022 academic year that inspired us to work on our own creative studies and also provided realistic examples of what our goal should be.

The day started with a train ride to the city which included a conversation of what our intentions should be while attending the Top Class Dance performances. This included what ideas and values we could obtain from watching the performances, which would influence our own solos to not only fit the criteria but also be innovative. Some original ideas in each performance involved mime, a wave, life struggles, mould and more. They were composed in different styles of dance including jazz, lyrical, contemporary and tap.

While watching these performances they encouraged and motivated our VCE Dance class to implement these qualities into our own solos that will be performed and assessed for the unit. Overall, we were grateful for the wonderful experience that was entertaining, encouraging and we hope to receive the opportunity to perform there next year.

Junior Dance

As part of the Year 8 Dance curriculum, students will be exploring different styles of dance. Students come to Kilbreda with a range of dance experience; some have regular classes in a variety of styles and some have not had the opportunity to do a dance class yet. We wanted to introduce a Hip Hop unit to give each student an opportunity to build skills within an accessible style. In the coming weeks they will be participating in Hip Hop classes with Street Dance Studios.

With the skills gained they will create their own choreography in small groups. The sessions will use skills in isolation (i.e. some turns, elevations, falls, gestures) and learning of phrases that could be put together at the beginnings of a dance.

VCE Music

Our VCE Music students recently went to Melbourne Recital Centre to watch a selection of the top 2022 performers. The girls were inspired by the high level of performance, the expressive techniques and tone colours created.
