Top Class Drama

The VCE Drama students recently visited the Melbourne Recital Centre to view the Top Class performances for Drama. Top Class showcases some of the top scoring VCE Drama solos from across the state. It is a wonderful demonstration of how hard work and dedication to this sophisticated creative task can see students achieve very high results. The VCE students returned inspired and motivated to continue developing their own Ensemble pieces. We wish them the very best during this creative process, and for their upcoming Ensemble and Solo performances.

Exploring Musical Passions: Year 10 Music

The Year 10 Music course is a journey of self-expression and artistic development through the newly created Music Passion Project. This unit empowers students to explore their unique musical interests while honing their skills in performance, composition and analysis.

Throughout the term, students select two pieces to perform and analyse, alongside crafting an original composition that showcases their technical, expressive, and creative growth.

An aspect of the project is refining performance techniques and stylistic awareness. Through dedicated rehearsal, critical listening and the use of technology, students enhance their interpretations and bring their artistic vision to life. This process not only builds confidence but also strengthens their ability to communicate musical ideas effectively.

Music Passion Project culminates in a live and recorded presentation, allowing students to share their evolving artistic voice with peers, teachers and the wider school community.

We look forward to sharing the final products from Year 10 Music students next term. However, for now, please enjoy a sneak peek update from some of our students!

Student Reflections

In Year 10 Music Passion Project, I have experienced the opportunity to develop my music skills in a small class. This is particularly awesome given the fact that I’m learning almost one-on-one with the teacher! For this class I have been learning ‘Blackbird’ by The Beatles and ‘It Ain’t Me Babe’ by Bob Dylan. I’ve enjoyed having a hands on class where I can hone in my love for music and share it with my peers!

Bonnie Woodhouse

Year 10

In Year 10 Music, we are currently doing our Passion Projects. This class has given me the opportunity to expand my skills and try new things. For my project I have chosen the songs ‘Love of my Life’ by Queen, and ‘Tears in Heaven’ by Eric Clapton. Both these songs have guitar techniques that I wasn’t very confident with, but the class has helped me improve my playing.

Year 10

In Year 10 Music we are working on our Passion Project. This is an excellent subject to work specifically on what you love about music. I play the trombone and piano so I am focusing on a jazz/swing style whilst practising and creating music related to the topic. I enjoy working on the slideshow and going into detail about everything. It is a creative freedom that I find exciting. I would recommend this subject to any and all music lovers!
