Semester 2 Year 7 Orchestra and Band Program
Following the outstanding success of our Semester 1 Year 7 Orchestra Program – where two-thirds of students chose to continue learning their instrument – we are thrilled to announce the launch of the Semester 2 Year 7 Orchestra and Band Program!
This exciting initiative builds on the momentum created in Semester 1, expanding our offering to include wind instruments, which are essential for the future growth and diversity of our school ensembles. Students receive an instrument and a method book, along with both classroom instruction and small group tutoring to help them master the basics and learn to perform in a class ensemble setting.
For students already learning an instrument, this program offers a valuable opportunity to extend their skills and explore something new. The collaborative nature of ensemble learning has proven to be highly effective and enjoyable for Kilbreda students, fostering both musical growth and social connection.
Instruments on offer in the Band Program include:
- Alto, Tenor, and Baritone Saxophone
- French Horn
- Trombone
- Tuba
- Euphonium
- Trumpet
- Flute
- Clarinet
This wide selection allows students to choose an instrument that suits their embouchure – the way a musician applies their mouth to the mouthpiece – and their physical frame, ensuring a comfortable and successful start to their musical journey. Students are also encouraged to choose an instrument they enjoy the sound of, helping to foster a deeper personal connection and enthusiasm for learning.
To keep students motivated and engaged, the class participates in a short performance in six weeks’ time, giving them a goal to work towards and a chance to showcase their progress.
We’re excited to hear what these budding musicians achieve and look forward to their performances at upcoming concerts. We also encourage next year’s Year 7 students to take part in this enriching and rewarding program.
