Performance and Development

As we review the NAPLAN results for this year and focus on both individual students and cohort data, it is important to highlight the growth that has taken place. Standardised testing is just one measure to highlight areas of focus to enhance practices and student outcomes. Student perception data, teacher perception data, assessment tasks, and observations and discussions are important pieces of data to create the data story and highlight student growth. This year, our NAPLAN results have seen the College sit at state or above state level for Reading, Writing and Numeracy but more importantly – students in Year 9 have shown growth in all of the above areas when compared to state and national averages. The growth of our students and ways to continue to support this growth is a focus of our professional learning and Professional Learning Communities.

Staff are working in small groups to review multiple measures of data to highlight areas of need in their subject area, domain and/or cohort and to research and identify strategies that can be implemented to enhance the student learning and outcomes. Observations of strategies in the classroom, discussions with colleagues and review of teaching practices will all take place this semester to enhance the practices of teaching staff. Once again, Action Research Cycles will be implemented during the Professional Learning Communities and the review of data, strategies and the development of the ‘data story’ will be presented at the end of the year.

I am looking forward to working with the Professional Learning Communities to continue the focus on growth of both staff and students.
