Once upon a time, rock stars were famous people who we watched play music on television shows such as ‘Rage’, ‘MTV’, or ‘Countdown’. Or maybe we were lucky enough to see them in concert. Or you saw them in public like I did once upon a time when I bumped into John Farnham on an Ansett flight to the Gold Coast when I was visiting the cockpit as a young girl (oh what a 1990s memory!)

But now, rock stars are students who know their Times Tables!

Last week we participated in an Australian-wide competition called ‘OzRocks‘ which was run by Times Tables Rock Stars – an online platform where students practise their times tables.

Many classes have been playing TT Rock Stars (as it is affectionately known) since the start of the year and it was great to see their enthusiastic participation in ‘OzRocks’.

Congratulations to Mrs (Dolores O’Riordan) O’Leary who led her rocking Year 7 and 8 students for the majority of the competition, with her band the ‘8/52s’ winning the overall competition. The whole class received ice-creams that doubled as both a delicious snack and a microphone – well done you little rock stars!

Congratulations also to the following students who finished in the top ten. These students also received individual prizes for being fabulous rock stars.
