Mathematics

As Term 2 gets underway, we’d like to congratulate all students on a fantastic start to the year. A special mention goes to our Year 7 students, who have transitioned smoothly from primary school and are already engaging enthusiastically with their learning. They are currently working on their statistics assignment, which uses data collected from their recent Year 7 Camp – an exciting and relevant way to explore real-world mathematics.

Thank you to Violet and Isobel for taking the time to reflect on their experience at Camp and how it connected with their maths learning. Their thoughtful reflections can be found below.

We also want to recognise the efforts of our senior students, who have recently completed a number of SACs. Your dedication and commitment to your studies is commendable. A reminder that senior maths support is available every Tuesday after school in the Library with Mr Reidy, and Unit 3 Maths students are encouraged to attend ‘Hour of Power’ on Thursdays after school in Room 18 with myself. These are excellent opportunities to clarify concepts and build confidence.

With Year 9 – 11 exams approaching, students are encouraged to consistently review the content covered so far. Make the most of the revision resources provided by your teachers and consider creating a study planner to organise your time effectively.

We’re proud of the positive attitude our students are showing and look forward to continuing a productive and rewarding term ahead.

Student Reflections

Year 7 Maths has been an exciting new challenge. We have done some revision on past things we did at primary school. We also learned new concepts which include stem and leaf plots and column graphs. I have really loved having the bound reference to use to write down rules and  I like how they are kept separate from the work in the workbook. A goal I have for the term is to try to challenge myself more.

Year 7

This year in Year 7 Maths we have been learning about lots of different topics such as graphs, data and whole numbers. My favourite topic that we have learnt this year is graphs – I like how we get to collect our own data and make our own graphs. I enjoy using bound references and workbooks, as in Year 6 we only had one book to use throughout all topics. We currently are working on our first Year 7 Maths assignment that has a variety of different questions that we learnt last term. So far, I have enjoyed Year 7 Maths and can’t wait to lean a lot more topics.
