St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers

Every year we receive requests from the Mentone, Cheltenham and Mordialloc St Vincent de Paul Society branches to help out with their annual Christmas Appeal.

Each of our Homerooms was been given a basket to fill with Christmas goodies for families in need. Homerooms have specific family configurations to collect for and the age of the children helps students choose appropriate and meaningful gifts.

We ask that all students get behind this important drive so that our hampers are overflowing with joy for Christmas.

Sustainability

As the school year draws to a close, the results of our student sustainability actions can be seen around the school.

Vegetable Garden

The vegetable garden is being set up for the summer season. The broad bean plants have been pulled up and added to the compost pile. We had lots of delicious broad beans from these plants. The artichoke plants have been very productive this year as well as the rhubarb. We are freezing some of the produce for use in Food Technology next year. Students have planted tomatoes they grew from seeds, as well as basil, capsicum, lettuce and spring onions. And the raspberries and strawberries are ripening!

Year 9 Environmental Science

The Year 9 Environmental Science class completed their projects, which they have created a blog for.

  • New signs for our outdoor bins have been created to clearly inform students and staff about what rubbish goes in which bin. These are being printed and will be installed over the holidays.
  • A bottle-top artwork has been created to decorate our vegetable garden.
  • The students have highlighted the issue of waste from using single use plastic at the canteen and they encouraged the use of reusable containers. This will be something to follow up next year.
  • Money was raised to adopt a koala on behalf of the Year 9 students.

Sustainability Leaders

Our Sustainability Leaders have worked hard this year and were a pleasure to work with. The ‘Power Ranger Project’, the Clothes Swap and the succulent planting activity on Brigidine Day were all initiated and driven by our students. Well done all of you!

Thank you to all families and staff who participated in the Zero Co Fundraiser. It is fantastic to see people adopt practices, which reduce our use of single-use plastic.
